Let's get this party started! By party I mean making a quilt together. Grab the Strawberry Gathering pattern from the website shop ( https://www.offbeatquilts.com/product-page/strawberry-gathering-quilt-pattern ) Print it out and let's dive in! I like to read through a pattern first before selecting what fabric to use and variation I want to do.
For this pattern I would start with the coloring page to plan my fabric layout. Here is an example of color placement that radiates out. By placing a darker color in the center, and lighter colors as it moves out towards the edges, it gives the quilt visual movement.
This layout above shows the quilts in solid colored fabric, now let's talk about a scrappy version! A scrappy quilt is term used to refer to a quilt made from a larger variety of fabrics, usually scraps leftover from other projects. In the scrappy version below each strawberry is made in a different fabric. The secondary blocks are kept the same, this gives the selected scraps a chance to pop out and shine as a highlighted visual element. For this quilt along I am going to be making a scrappy version and a strawberry lemonade option too. I have so many scraps here that it will e a good stash buster to mix up the fabrics. My plan is to grab a pile of fabrics in the reds and pinks and cut out one strawberry from each, to make a total of 20 strawberries.
So I hope this blog post gets your creative juices going! And I really hope you can join us in this quilt along! Be sure to post on Instagram your plans for this quilt along and use the hashtag #strawberryqal so all our pictures will link up and we can cheer each other on.
